Newbold Road in Rugby was closed both ways today (Tuesday November 7) due to concerns for the welfare of a man on the roof of a Hill Street property.

Road closures on Newbold Road and Lancaster Road have since been lifted.

Police said the man was throwing debris at officers: "Police were called at around 8am this morning (Tuesday, November 7) following concerns for the welfare of a man on a roof at a property in Hill Street, Rugby.

"A man in his 30s is reported to be throwing debris, believed to be roof tiles and bricks from the roof top towards officers.

"Police negotiators and officers are currently at the scene and in talks with the man.

“Road closures are currently in place upon Newbold Road and Lancaster Road, whilst emergency services attend the scene.”

Police called the Ambulance Service out of concern for the welfare of a man on Hill Street.

The man was safely taken down from the roof and has been detained.

Police said: "A man in his 30s came down from the roof safely and was detained at approximately 12.18pm.

"Police are engaging with partners to ensure the man receives appropriate medical help and support."
