Police have arrested a man after a large amount of illegal tobacco was found in a town centre shop.

Police and officers from Warwickshire Trading Standards attended the town centre premises as a routine check on Tuesday this week and found the cigarettes hidden in a store room.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of the possession of counterfeit tobacco products.

PC Rebecca Bailey, town centre safer neighbourhood officer, said: “Counterfeit tobacco products can by highly dangerous and can contain a cocktail of toxic substances.

“I must advise anyone thinking of buying under the counter products such as this to think of their own health.”

Enquiries are ongoing. If anyone has any information on illegal tobacco sales, please call your local police team, Warwickshire Trading Standards or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
