Man arrested after reports of a man in the river shouting for help

A man has been arrested following two incidents in Rugby on Saturday night.

Police were called to Gabor Close at about 9.20pm to a report of a man acting suspiciously and trying to break a window.

The man was disturbed by the occupants and after jumping over a fence ran off in the direction of Waterside Drive and Boughton Road.

At 9.50pm emergency services were called to Ajax Close where it was reported that there was a man in the river shouting for help.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended, and the force helicopter was deployed to assist in the search for the man, who was located on the opposite bank. He was not injured.

A 21 year old male was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and using threatening words and behaviour.

He was taken into custody for questioning and later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Officers investigating the incidents would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area on Saturday night, or has any information which would help them with their enquiries.
