Man in court over Rugby roadside scams

A man will appear in court in connection with a scam whereby Rugby motorists were flagged down to help drivers claiming to be low on fuel.

A 19-year-old man from Coventry will appear in court to face a charge of fraud by making false representation in connection with a number of incidents in Rugby and Dunchurch last month.

In February, drivers were warned to be wary of being flagged down to help any driver low on fuel and asking for cash to help get home.

Warwickshire Police said a “number of similar incidents” were reported over a six month period, all centred around the M45 and the A5.

And that the scam was believed to be a nation wide one involving a number of offenders.

Saveriu Ion of Clements Street, Coventry will appear at Leamington Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday March 16.
