Man dies after car hits tree near Rugby

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a car accident near Southam.

It happened on the A426 Rugby Road near Southam at 1pm yesterday (Thursday).

The collision occurred when a blue Renault Clio travelling from Rugby towards Southam, left the road and collided with some small trees before going down the embankment into a quarry.

The air ambulance, fire, police and ambulance services all attended the scene.

Despite concerted attempts to save the male driver who was the only occupant of the vehicle, he was declared dead at the scene.

The name of the driver will not be released until all relatives have been informed and formal identification processes have taken place.

Police have launched an investigation into how the collision occurred and are appealing for witnesses who saw the blue Renault Clio as it drove along the A426 to please contact PC 0588 Mick Hogan in the Major Investigation Unit on 01926 415415.
