Man dies after crashing car into bridge near Church Lawford

A man has died after his car crashed into a railway bridge near Church Lawford in the early hours of this morning (Sunday September 4) after being followed by police.

The crash happened at around 3.15am on the A428 Rugby Road, and left the car on its roof in the middle of the road.

Although fire crews used hydraulic equipment to get him out, the man, who is believed to have been 43 and from Coventry, was declared dead at the scene. Formal identification has yet to take place.

The A428 is likely to remain closed at the railway bridge near to Church Lawford for most of the day and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

The incident has now been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
