McGarvey leaves it late to clinch Cancer Cup glory for Westlea

Westlea Wanderers’ domination of the Cancer Cup continued but they were made to work by Division One runners-up Bishops Itchington at the New Windmill.

Josh Cole gave the holders an early advantage but a spirited second-half display saw Bishops gain a deserved equaliser through substitute Jordan Gill to force an extra period.

And, with penalties looming, Kev McGarvey hit the winner for Westlea with eight minutes remaining.

Mid-Warwickshire Police missed out on finishing second in Division Two after going down to a 4-2 defeat at Kenilworth Town.

Gaz Williams scored both Police’s goals, with Daniel Cornes (2), Daniel Long and Paul Topham securing the points for Town.

Whitnash Tavern’s Division Four title hopes suffered a damaging setback when they were held to a goalless draw at Long Itchington, opening the door for Midland Rangers to overhaul them on goal difference.

Radford Albion ended their campaign with a flourish, thrashing Priors Marston 5-1 with goals from Daniel Riley (2), Paul Murray (2) and James Marshall.

In Division Five, Tiltyard boosted their goal difference with a 10-0 defeat of Kineton S&SC and now need just three points from their final two fixtures to guarantee the title.

Rogers Kingston, Andy Legg and Tom Shanley all helped themselves to braces, with Liam Devine, Tom Griffith, Laurie Anderson and Pat Breslin completing the scoring.
