Singing For The Brain sessions take place at the Brunswick Healthy Living Centre in Shrubland Street on alternate Tuesdays from 10.15am to 11.45am.

Participants will meet others who have had similar experiences to themselves and join in with as much or as little singing as they like. The sessions are run by staff and volunteers and led by a Singing For The Brain leader.

The charity says that music may encourage people with dementia to express positive feelings and emotions and enhance their communication skills, while well-known songs can evoke memories. Participants are also encouraged to move their hands by using percussion instruments and making actions to the music.

By taking part in an activity together, people with dementia and their carers are able to strengthen their relationships, as well as share experiences with different people and find new sources of support.

Singing For The Brain was recently featured on a BBC Radio 4 documentary, available to listen to on the BBC iPlayer service.

The next sessions take place on November 3 and 17 and December 1 and 15.
