New Claverdon vicar praying he won’t be out for a duck

THE newly-appointed vicar in Claverdon is set for a new innings of clerical responsibilities after being signed up for the cricket team.

Terry Mason took up the reigns for the Claverdon, Preston Bagot and Wootton Wawen parish this month and soon discovered he was due to play a part in the three parishes’ annual cricket match. After being found the gear and receiving a few tips on playing a straight bat by some of the players, he is ready to have a go on June 26. Rev Mason, 54, said: “I’ve not played cricket for years. The game could be the most challenging of all the events surrounding my arrival.

“I pray I’ll not be out stumped for a duck.”
