A new gym and sports facility to be built at Bilton School will be open to the public by this time next year, according to plans.
The £2.1m project will include a sports hall, gym and dance and fitness studios. The money has come from the Department of Education and will replace the school’s aging sports hall. It will be a similar size the existing hall, containing four badminton courts.
The new facilities will also mean improved car-parking for people nearby.
Patsy Weighill, head teacher, said it was fantastic news for the school.
“Confidence in our school is really starting to build and this is the latest in a string of good news we’ve had.
“Not only are the new sports facilities great news for our students, but also for the wider community as they’ll be able to use them.”
Building work is expected to start in September, with the first phase on construction being completed by April 2014. The rest of the project will be completed by the end of 2014.
Mrs Weighill added: “There has a been a great deal of investment in the school recently and confidence is getting higher and higher.
“Having access to modern, brand new sporting equipment will also make a huge difference to learning here.”
