SKATEBOARDERS can now enjoy a newly opened skate part at the Hillmorton Recreation Ground.

Due to the imminent works to create a new leisure centre, the skate facilities formerly at the Ken Marriot Leisure Centre have now been relocated.

The concrete ramps have been moved and incorporated into the new skate park at Hillmorton Rec in Featherbed Lane along with a couple of new additional features.

The new park in Hillmorton, designed and installed by innovative skate company Bendcrete, now offers a greater array of ramps offering different experiences and challenges and much smoother transitions.

As the Hillmorton Skate Park is now concrete it also offers a better surface for skaters, as well as being quieter for other park users and nearby residents.

The alterations at Hillmorton Rec involved some of the metal ramps being removed. Following consultation with local skaters who were in favour of the idea, these ramps have been relocated at Hollowell Skate Park to further develop the opportunities for users.

Cllr Dr Mark Williams, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for sustainable environment, said: “I would like to thank all of the young people who offered their views and comments about both skate parks and the possible designs; I hope they enjoy using the new skate facilities.

“We are also looking to cater for other wheeled sport enthusiasts with slightly different interests, and are currently working with the Environment Agency and local BMXers to see if we can create a BMX Dirt Pump Track within the borough.”
