New make-up of Warwick town council

The Conservative councillor got in with 1,629 votes - and during the town council meeting next Thursday (May 21) Cllr Littlejohn will take over from her Tory colleague Moira-Ann Grainger, who polled 1,318 and has also been re-elected to serve on the district council.

Cllr Littlejohn, who represents Aylesford ward, said: “I am thrilled to have the chance to serve as mayor of such an historic town with its  traditions, castle and racecourse - it’s such a  privilege.”

Altogether the Conservatives won 12 seats on the town council, Labour has three and there are no Independents or Liberal Democrats.

In Saltisford voters returned veteran Labour politician John Holland to the town council with a 1,323 majority. He will also continue to serve as a county councillor.

Two newcomers for Labour are John-Paul Bromley, a lecturer in horticulture at Warwickshire College, who picked up 1,329 votes and will also serve on the district council, and Dorothy Da Cruz, who is about to retire from teaching at Aylesford School. She won 1,355 votes in the Emscote.

New for the Conservatives on both town and district are Richard Edgington who won 1,099; Terry Morris, who works at IBM and picked up 1,639 votes in Saltisford; retired fireman Neale Murphy, who polled 1,218 votes in Myton and Heathcote; Rajvinder Mann (Con, 1,265); and Richard Eddy (Con 1,741).

Town group leader Gerry Guest has stood down from the district but will continue representing Myton and Heathcote with 1,203 Conservative votes, along with newcomer Joy Bolton, who used to run a bed and breakfast business in the town and won 1,115 in Emscote ward.

Also re-elected to town council is Christine Cross (Con, 1465 votes) whose husband Stephen has been returned to both town (1,493 votes) and district council, as has Martyn Ashford (Con, Aylesford) who was returned with 1,520 votes.
