New plans to redevelop Elliott’s Field Retail Park have been submitted to Rugby Borough Council.

Hammerson, the owner of the retail park in Leicester Road, resubmitted its plans to the council last month to include several design alterations to the multi-million scheme.

At present only Debenhams has been confirmed as one of the new retailers that will be moving onto the site.

Tom Cochrane from Hammerson said: “Hammerson’s planning application to redevelop Elliott’s Field Retail Park was granted permission in July 2013 following very strong public support and the near unanimous backing of Rugby’s planning committee.

“This is essentially the same scheme. However, since then design alterations have been made to the proposals and as such a new planning application for the redevelopment and extension to the retail park has been submitted to the council.

“The overall floor space will not change from the existing planning permission, although the size of a number of units has been altered in the western and main retail terraces, and as a consequence changes have been made to the elevations and canopy lines of the buildings.

“The major benefits of the proposals remain and Elliott’s Field is set to become a more welcoming destination for shoppers and much better able to meet the demands of the growing town. Crucially, by improving Rugby’s retail offer, residents will have far less need to shop outside the borough and the whole town will benefit as a result.”

The redevelopment of the retail park will include demolishing many of the units already on the site which will be replaced with new retail shops, cafes and restaurants.
