An operating theatre at the Hospital of St Cross will be closed for three weeks for work described as proving its bosses’ commitment to Rugby.
The £200,000 theatre upgrade is a prerequisite for all major open procedures such as joint replacement and spinal fusions.
The work involves replacing an ‘ultra clean ventilation canopy’, which is designed to reduce the prevalence of harmful bacteria in the operating theatre and around the wound.
The installation will result in the closure of theatre number two at the hospital from November 30 until December 20.
General manager Juliet Starkey said: “The theatre upgrade will mean that the breadth of operations that this theatre will be able to provide is increased.
“The redevelopment is a further example of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust’s commitment to the Hospital of St Cross and the residents of Rugby.
“And although the theatre will be closed for three weeks, no patient operations have been cancelled as a result.”
All other theatres will remain open and operational while the work is undertaken.
