A depressing sign of the times

Here we are 14 years into the 21st century with technological marvels coming out of our ears, sooper dooper high definition televisions you can hang on the wall, computers and tablets that can tell you virtually anything you want to know, instant communications, cars in the offing that can drive themselves, smartphones......and food banks.

I grew up during the war but I’m blowed if I can remember hearing of food banks. Mobile emergency food kitchens moving into blitzed areas yes, but food banks, no.

There was a report on the radio news this morning (Sunday) of some foreign nonentity (to me) being sold and bought for 40 million pounds to kick a ball about! Words fail one.
