A weak reaction to a serious matter

I write after reading the report of arrests following a drug raid in Leamington (Courier last week). My concern is the very light penalties, in view of the seriousness of the charges.

One was given a ‘caution’ only for possession of a class A drug and another an £80 fine. Do the police have any idea of the devastation drug use and drug dealing has on children and families?

These charges are not a deterrent in the slightest and are hardly going to disrupt the illegal activity. It seems a waste of time and expense paid to police for such a weak reaction to such a serious matter. The problem is deep seated in this area, both with drug abusers and the police reaction to it.

I feel offended that police treat the use and possession /dealing of drugs so lightly. Each of us face theft and violence, in various degree, to fund this habit.

I would like to see much more proactive police work against dealing/supplying and use of illegal drugs and selling on/misuse of prescribed medication.

No wonder the dealers and users find it so easy locally to make so much money when the message given, by action above, that this is not a serious offence.

What is happening with Communities Against Drugs? I really want to see more police activity in this area.
