Alternative HS2 idea is irresponsible

Let’s face it. Labour’s proposed changes to the HS2 route would be laughable if they were not from such supposedly responsible people. If this is the best that those only recently out of Government can suggest as an alternative, may the electorate ensure that they stay out, as the proposals are pure mischief making.

That HS2 is a vital part of the long term needs of the nation is actually beyond question now. The obvious difficulty is shoe horning in such a key infrastructure development into a highly sensitive country with its extremely sensitized population.

For the Shadow Transport Secretary to come up with such a thoroughly ill-thought and impractical alternative route is not just highly irresponsible. That there is now so much more uncertainty is without question. We have to have sympathy with those close to the original route, from that area south of Coventry especially who managed to curtail the development of the airport and must be wondering if the whole world is totally mad battlefield.

As I will be growing wonderful daisies by the time of HS2 opening, I just hope that we will be able realise the long term need for a developed transport system to help the next generations to cope with an increasingly tough and turbulent world. We must invest in many more key infrastructure tools to satisfy the national need and with such as the HS2 and the developed rail system to support them. - Richard Tilden Smith, Northgate, Warwick.
