Development will cause traffic chaos

The proposed development of land south of Warwick at Gallows Hill and Europa Way will increase the amount of people travelling through Warwick, affecting the highly congested Myton Road, Banbury Road and Europa Way at peak times and also the historic road layout of Warwick.

This traffic chaos and incompetent planning has already been demonstrated by the expansion to the Ford Foundry roundabout, which has had a significant impact on Warwick South residents, including increased travel time.

Suggested improvements would not ease the backlog down Myton Road due to the constrained road layout and traffic calming in the town centre. Nitrogen dioxide levels already exceed maximum levels in Warwick town centre and development will further affect public health. Existing infrastructure is at capacity with the current population and will not sustain increased numbers.

Land at Myton was designated as an area of restraint to separate Warwick and Leamington and provides habitats for a range of species. Development in this area would threaten local houses with flooding, as occurred when the Trinity School site was developed.

This area should be developed last and protected until alternative sites can be found. Further development should be concentrated in areas where transport infrastructure can be improved and which aren’t constrained by historic town layout and subject to air quality issues.

Warwick has already been subject to significant expansion, increasing by 12 per cent since 2000, twice the rate for Warwickshire, twice the national average, and over three times the increase for the West Midlands. Warwick South residents voices will be heard and we as a community oppose these plans.
