Early Christmas present for criminals

How dare the Conservative-led council play with people’s safety and possibly lives by pressing ahead with this out-of-touch policy of turning off our street lights between the hours of 12am-5.30am.

The council intends to push this policy forward to December 1 and I believe the council have presented many criminals with an early Christmas present as December is a time of the year where many people will be carrying extra money on them and have extra valuables stored in there households for the Christmas period. This policy I believe will create a criminals paradise and will leave the decent citizens of Warwickshire in fear of their safety in and out of their homes. Myself and many others are strongly against this latest disaster of a policy which the council have forced upon us!

The Conservative-led council have said “it makes sense to bring the timetable forward rather than sit and wait for April to arrive.” What planet are the council living on?... I’m not so sure they will sound so enthusiastic when assaults , sexual assaults and burglaries start sky rocketing and we will all know where the blame will lie and that will be at the council’s door! I note at the time of 2006 when this odd idea first came along that no party had overall control of our council and obviously sense prevailed and this barmy idea was shelved.

The earliest street lamps were used by Greek and Roman civilizations, where light primarily served the purpose of security, both to protect the public from tripping over something on the path as well as keeping the potential criminals at bay, so when you consider this fact that even back then the people at the time understood the concept of night safety it beggars belief that now in the year 2012 the council is wasting £1.6 million on fitting equipment to our street lights to turn them off! Along with many others I pay my council tax and I consider street lighting to be a main necessity to contribute to a safe society but obviously safety is the last thing on the agenda for the Conservative led council.

When evaluating this shambles of a policy It is obvious to see that the council have ignored the Warwickshire citizens safety interests and pressed ahead with this sinister policy and I predict after one year of the council depriving us of our safety and the cry for help from the public the council will be forced to scrap its bonkers policy, thus wasting £1.6 million which could of been spent elsewhere.

At the last general election another party said that the Conservatives wanted to take us back to the 1980s...they were wrong it seems to be more like the dark ages. It is clear to see that the omni-shambles has spread from national government to local government and I would advise the decent citizens of Warwickshire to be safe and lock up as the Conservative-led council have put each and every one of Warwickshire’s citizens in danger.

Please remember at the next council elections to vote these people out! - Isobel Edwards, Northumberland Road, Leamington.
