Elderly are losers in Warwick road lottery

I wonder if local citizens are aware that the local council has introduced a new lottery in Warwick. It’s quite simple, remove the zebra crossing and try your luck at getting across the road safely. Probable winners will be young agile people (probably similar to those on the improvement plan). However the losers in the lottery are the frail, infirm older people in our society. Those with pushchairs and wheelchairs also among the losers.

I agree with D V Rose (Postbag last week) that the council is making a decision that could ultimately lead to an accident.

I seriously urge all residents who use the crossing to write to the council planners asking why they should put residents at risk. Surely they have a moral obligation to protect citizens.

The zebra crossing is the only safe place to cross, take it away and we all enter the council lottery.

A footnote to my criticism, I must add that the council has published the plans and asked for comments so if the crossing goes it’s our fault for not complaining enough. - J.D . Murphy, Stuart Close, Warwick.
