Filthy car park will put visitors off

I have just returned from a shopping trip in town where as usual I parked in the Covent Garden car park. I have used this car park frequently and was delighted when ‘upgrading’ work began. Much has been made of the improvements carried out but other than the changing of the lower floor to parent and child spaces and some redecoration I cannot for the life of me figure out how the money was spent.

Parking on higher levels necessitates use of the lifts. These lifts are in a disgusting filthy condition and have not in all the time I have used them been cleaned. They seem to have been used as an extra toilet as they stink of urine. The whole area around the paying machines and the stairwells are also filthy and smell of urine. What on earth can visitors to this town think if this is the first impression they get when stepping out of their cars.

I believe the money spent should have been sufficient for a full renovation of the car park including the upper levels, which do not seem to have been touched. It’s no use building more shopping centres if visitors are put off ever setting foot here again. Something needs to be done urgently so that those considering visiting the town for Christmas shopping will not be put off from returning. - Mrs Cathy, via email.
