Garden competition still open for entries

Just a reminder to all residents, pubs, guest houses and other businesses that Kenilworth in Bloom’s annual garden competition is still open for entry.

Don’t be put off by the fact that nobody has been able to get outside to hack things back, prop things up, or even to mow the grass – the judges will take the effects of the weather into account. Everybody is invited to nominate their own property and their favourite front gardens and floral displays around the town, so if you pass a garden, restaurant, pub or anywhere else that you think looks really pretty, or might do in three weeks’ time if the sun comes out, please let us know.

All styles are eligible, large or small, crowded with variety or simplicity itself. It could be a collection of stunning tubs or hanging baskets, any display that is on public view. We will contact the householders to make sure they are happy to be involved, and will take it from there.

All premises will be visited by a group of judges mainly from the Allotments and Horticultural Societies between the 16th and 30th July, and will be grouped as follows:

n Large and small front gardens

n Large and small back gardens

n Frontage only (tubs, baskets, window boxes)

n Public houses, clubs

n Shops and other public buildings

n Communal properties, blocks of flats and residential homes

n Restaurants, guest houses or hotels.

n We also have an extra trophy to award this year for the best Jubilee/ Olympic display on public view.

This is a light-hearted opportunity for residents to gain recognition for their contribution to making Kenilworth a brighter and more beautiful place for us all to enjoy.

All entrants and sponsors of Kenilworth in Bloom will be invited to a free presentation evening in the autumn (with bar and buffet), when gold, silver-gilt, silver and bronze award certificates will be given out, with trophies for the overall winners in each category. We’ve been told it’s a very happy and enjoyable night. Please take part this year. We look forward to receiving your entry. - Sue Edwards, Kenilworth in Bloom.
