Glad to see hotel bid fall at first fence

It was good to see that councillors refused permission for the Warwick Racecourse hotel (Courier last week).

I was disappointed planning recommended approval given that distance separation guidelines are in place to discourage over development and protect people’s amenity .

At its closest point the hotel would have been approximately 12 metres from the properties opposite yet if it were to have been a residential dwelling and not a hotel it would have needed to be 32 metres away. The rear of the hotel would have had windows and no matter how the racecourse choose to wriggle away from it those windows overlook the properties opposite .

Those councillors who voted to approve the hotel on the grounds that it would bring business to the towns shops and restaurants need to look at reintroducing the parking spaces that were taken away in Warwick Square so more people can access the shops/restaurants year round. - Julian Luca via email.
