People have been put in danger

I have been registered partially sighted since 1990 and live in Warwick. I am extremely concerned about the way the county council has changed High Street and Jury Street into such a dangerous area to cross from one side of the road to the other. It was much safer when we had the zebra crossing and beacon - at least pedestrians and drivers knew what they were there for and drivers would stop to allow pedestrians to cross safely.

I don’t think the general public know what ‘shared services’ (or ‘platforms’ as they are now being called) are or how they are supposed to work. Visually impaired and disabled people have especially been put in danger since this ‘enhancement’ was introduced by the county council this year.

Motorists think they are a traffic calming measure to slow down the speed of traffic in the area and haven’t been educated to accept the fact they are supposed to be ‘crossing places’ for tourists and other pedestrians. The ‘eye contact’ pedestrians are supposed to make with the driver of an oncoming vehicle to indicate they want to cross the road is ridiculous especially when visually impaired people quite often can’t see a vehicle approaching, let alone being able to see the driver!

It is very annoying - and highly dangerous - that the county council continues to ignore all the attempts being made by so many individuals and organisations involved with the safety of disabled and sight-impaired people who are less fortunate than themselves. They are obviously not thinking ahead to the time when they may find themselves in our situation.

Goodness knows what mayhem to traffic and pedestrians they are planning for January. I can’t see it being a very safe New Year. - Name and address supplied.
