Playing ‘chicken’ risks lives

On Thursday April 16 at around 4.15pm, my partner and I were returning home along Othello Avenue, Warwick Gates, when a child on a scooter quite deliberately rode out in front of our car from Juliet Drive. Fortunately for the child – and us, we were travelling quite slowly and were able to stop before hitting him.

He may not be so lucky next time, however, should he encounter one of the many ‘boy racers’ who regard the speed-restricting islands on the road as a challenge to be got around as fast, and on as few wheels, as possible.

I would hope that any parent reading this will emphasise the stupidity of playing ‘chicken’ before allowing their children to play on what is a busy and dangerous road.
