Sewer works making town an eyesore

I write regarding the general deterioration of Leamington. This is mainly connected to the ongoing sewerage works.

I appreciate and understand the reasons for the major sewerage works, however the general state that the roads and other areas are left in after the work has been completed is unacceptable. The tarmac repairs appear to be poorly patched up and certainly won’t last through a few tough winters, and the other areas where heavy machinery has been used which has not been resurfaced are damaged and not aesthetically pleasing.

The area adjacent to the statue of Queen Victoria on the Parade is an eyesore. What was once a beautifully planted pathway, is now a tarmac mess, with no flower beds and is poorly constructed.

The deterioration is not limited to the sewerage works though, there are numerous areas of the Parade where paving slabs have been removed and the gaps filled with tarmac. This is an absolute eyesore and a trip hazard. It was only a few years ago that a very expensive programme of repaving the Parade took place. There is no excuse for this.

In my opinion Leamington has stood above the rest of the towns in the local area. It’s an attractive town with fantastic facilities and beautiful parks, but just lately it seems that for some reason decisions are being made that are not in the long term interest of this town, by people possibly not from Leamington that have little interest in our town.

It is now more important than any other time that Leamington should be given the quality service it deserves to encourage visitors and shoppers to spend money in our town. - M.Males, via email.
