Shopping park is rightly Warwick’s

The chairman of the Leamington Chamber of Trade (Courier last week) insists that Warwick Town Council said nothing and did nothing to oppose the change of name from the Shires Retail Park to Leamington Shopping Park.

The change of name did not, however, need a planning application and members knew nothing of this until the new sign appeared. Indeed I complained two years ago at town council committee and full council that the sign should read Warwick Shopping Park, not Leamington, and the town clerk wrote to the owners on two separate occasions requesting it to be changed. He received neither acknowledgment, nor response.

It is irksome for Warwick South councillors who represent this ward and also Warwick town councillors who regularly consider (Warwick) planning applications for the shopping park to see part of our patch under a Leamington banner. Warwick South is the largest ward in the district but we are very protective of it and do not wish to lose any part, even if only in name.

Let us hope that the latest letter from the town clerk to the owners may achieve some success. - Cllr Linda Bromley, Warwick District Council (South Ward).
