Sit down with us and discuss issues

An open letter to Bowls England:

The Friends of Victoria Park, like the vast majority of Leamington residents, are delighted that you have chosen to locate your National Championships and your HQ in our town.

We understand both the strong motivations – ‘economics and geography’ – that prompted your move as well as the reasons why our local council is investing hundreds of thousands of pounds in preparing world-class facilities for you.

However, over 1,500 users of Victoria Park – families, exercisers, dog owners - have signed a petition protesting against plans to park cars and caravans on beautiful Victoria Park every year throughout the summer school holidays. Warwick District Council is taking our concerns seriously but we understand that you (Bowls England) are reluctant to meet with us.

There are alternative parking sites and we are confident that arrangements can be made to meet the special needs of blue badge holders, the frail elderly and the championship competitors who carry heavy equipment.

Please sit down with us to find a way forward that suits both bowls enthusiasts and park lovers. We too would then like to see Leamington become ‘the Wimbledon of Bowls’.
