Well done to Old Town for Portas win

I would like to express my pleasure in Old Town, Leamington, being awarded one of the places in the Mary Portas Scheme. It has been a very positive bit of news and all concerned should congratulate themselves.

For those that do not know, I would like to point out that Old Town starts at the main post office and runs down Bath Street past our independent hardware shop on Regent Place and then under the railway bridge.

Also, usually I write here complaining about the large supermarkets unfairly taking market share, this time I would like to thank the Courier in publishing my letters as it has generated many new customers to our hardware shop. These customers have indicated that they will change their buying habits now and try to find items locally before using the big stores.

These new customers will become the life blood of the high street and as long as the shops like ours keep the prices reasonable, they will win more and more support from these valued customers - Paul A Haslam, Lamats Limited, Regent Place, Leamington.
