The Oxfam shop in Rugby is calling for members of the public to join its volunteering team as part of Volunteers Week.

The national event celebrates the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK, including the 23,000 volunteers who help to run Oxfam’s network of nearly 700 shops.

Oxfam shop manager Vijay Adhyaru said: “I want to say a big Thank You to our wonderful team who help to keep our shop running so we can make as much money as possible for Oxfam’s work with poor communities worldwide. And this Volunteers Week we’re calling for more people to come and join us.

“Volunteering for Oxfam is different. You get to meet interesting people, boost your confidence and gain life-changing skills.”

Liz, Oxfam Shop volunteer from Rugby, said: “I enjoy the feeling of belonging to a team. It’s a wonderful community support system which does something bigger. The benefits are global and local.”

There are a variety of roles available to volunteers at Oxfam. From window display design to sorting and pricing donated items in store or as a cashier, full training is given.
