Pawsey power seals charity win

The match was played against a team put together by another MP, supported the Rugby Football Union’s Injured Players Foundation.

This supports seriously injured players for life and works to prevent future injuries through research and education.

Mark has played rugby throughout his life, including for the OLs, and is now the Chair of the Commons and Lords team in Parliament.

Tom Pawsey has followed in his father’s footsteps and played for both Princethorpe and for the Rugby Lions.

Mark said: “It was a great privilege to be able to play at Twickenham with my son, on the hallowed turf where just a few weeks ago the England team achieved the Grand Slam at the Six Nations.

“As a keen fan of the game, I have the honour of representing the birthplace of the game in Parliament as well as on the pitch for the Commons and Lords Team.

“The RFU Injured Players Foundation is England Rugby’s official charity and they do amazing work helping those who are seriously injured playing rugby football. They provide support both in the immediate aftermath of an injury and over the course of their life, in addition to working to improve safety within the game.”

“Like myself, many of our team played rugby competitively in youth but we now play ‘golden oldies’ rules.

“We are all playing now for the love of the game and to give something back to the rugby community. It was great to turn out with Tom for this game after watching him for many years from the touchline.”
