PC Andy Crouch from Rugby’s Safer Neighbourhood Team took on the challenge last week in memory of his heroic police dog Jake, who passed away last year.

The run - which simulated the length of Warwickshire - took place last Friday, April 29 at Rugby police station’s gym.

The challenge marked one year since retired police dog Jake posthumously received the world’s second highest award for any animal from the PDSA - the animal equivalent of an OBE.

By taking part in the challenge, Andy was keen to highlight Jake’s achievements and to raise awareness of the contribution working animals make every day to organisations.

The run, which was the equivalent of two marathons, started at 6am and took PC Crouch ten hours and one minute to complete.

Over £1,000 has now been raised through sponsorship. The money has been donated to the PDSA which helps to pay for veterinary treatments.

After finishing his run, Andy said: “Thank you so much to everyone who supported the event and to those that sponsored me.

“I wanted to do something in honour of Jake, and I’m proud to have completed the challenge.

“As much as I enjoyed running the length of Warwickshire, I’ll be pleased to continue patrolling the streets of Rugby again.”
