A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find two cars which had been involved in a collision.

“The front seat passenger from one car, a woman in her 80s, sustained suspected chest, pelvis and lower limb injuries. She was in a serious condition and trapped in the vehicle.

“Crews immediately commenced treatment to stabilise her condition and injuries whilst working closely with the fire service to carefully extricate her from the vehicle by removing the roof.

“After being trapped in the wreckage for over an hour, crews immobilised her with a spinal board, pelvic splint and neck collar before she was airlifted to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further assessment and treatment.
