A remarkable great-grandma celebrated her 100th birthday in Lutterworth on Wednesday at a rousing knees-up with her friends.

Pat Carpenter said she was “thrilled” as she looked forward to her extra-special party at her retirement housing complex in Guthlaxton Court.

Delighted Pat said: “My friends are doing me proud by putting on this lovely celebration for me in our lounge here.

“They’ve banned me from going in there before it’s ready as they decorate it.

“I also had a lovely time with 28 of my family on Sunday – I hadn’t seen some of them for years.”

Asked about getting to the magical milestone of 100, she joked: “It doesn’t feel any different to being 99 or 98.

“I’ve never drank or smoked but I think it must be in my genes and I’ve been very lucky.”

London-born Pat said she had lost two “nice and kind” husbands over the years, Tom and Harry, and has four children, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

“I love being near my family and I like living here in Lutterworth.

“I’ve made a lot of really good friends here and I’m still very active,” said Pat, who still loves dancing, walking, gardening and the Great Outdoors.
