A heated outdoor swimming pool could be coming to Rugby as part of plans for new leisure centre

A heated outdoor pool could be opening in Rugby if a planning application for a fitness and wellbeing centre on the Houlton housing development is approved.

The planning application, submitted by Cushman & Wakefield in December last year, could see the building of a David Lloyd Health, Fitness and Racquets Club off Crick Road, near to St Gabriel’s School.

A spokesperson for the Houlton development said, subject to planning permission, the centre could open in the spring or summer of 2021.

Planning documents suggest the outdoor pool would have four lanes and be 25 metres long, while also having a separate children's section.

As well as an outdoor pool, the centre would also offer an outdoor spa garden, wet spa facilities and outdoor tennis courts with an air bubble canopy that would allow them to be used in all weathers.

Inside the building would be a large gym area with a range of equipment and an indoor pool.

The centre is expected to have around 250 parking spaces, including 10 disabled and six parent spots.

Two electric vehicle charging spots and 20 bicycle spaces are also planned.

It is not yet clear when this plan will come before Rugby council.

David Lloyd Leisure describes itself as 'the UK’s leading health, fitness and racquets group'.

And in December last year it celebrated the opening of an £11m facility in Bristol - its 100th club to open in the UK.
