Here's what's happening with sports facilities in the Warwick district amid coronavirus concerns

Warwick District Council have released an update today (Thursday) about what is happening with the leisure facilities in the district.

Here is the latest on what is open and closed:

Everyone Active - Leisure Centres

Everyone Active has confirmed that at the present time Abbey Fields Swimming Pool, Castle Farm Recreation Centre, St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre and Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre, are open, and operating most of their activities.

Some activities have been cancelled and customers are advised to check with their local centre.

In line with industry advice, the number of spaces in group exercise classes has been reduced by 50 per cent.

On site cafes are not selling hot food, and cleaning and signage regimes have been increased for the safety of customers.

The sports facilities at Myton School and Kenilworth School are closed from end of day on Thursday March 19 until further notice.

Customers are encouraged to contact their local centres with any questions they may have about opening times and activities.

Football pitches

Grass football pitches at Newbold Comyn, Harbury Lane, Castle Farm, St Nicholas Park, and St Marys Lands have now been closed for the rest of the season and should not be used as annual maintenance will start shortly in order to ensure the pitches are in the best possible condition for next season.

Other facilities:

~ Edmondscote Athletics track will be closed from Friday March 20 until further notice.

~ Bowls England has announced cancellation of all Bowls England events across the country for the 2020 season, including the National Championships held annually in Leamington. The council are liaising with local bowls clubs about the scheduled start of the local bowls season and will keep the situation under review in the coming weeks.

~ Tennis courts at Victoria Park, Beauchamp Square Gardens, Abbey Fields and St Nicholas Park remain open for casual play. For more information about Victoria Park Tennis Club please See “VP Tennis Club” Facebook site

~ ParkRun have cancelled all national events therefore the local Park Run events at Newbold Comyn and St Marys Lands

A spokesperson from Warwick District Council said: "We apologise for the disappointment and disruption that these closures may cause. The safety and well-being of our customers and staff is of paramount importance.

"The closures will be for an undetermined period of time and will remain under review in line with government advice.

"All our parks and public open spaces remain open at this stage, perfect for getting out and about, enjoying some fresh air and getting some exercise.
