A bakery in Leamington is helping to spread some cheer to key workers with its sweet treats.

Saffron Medway, who runs Caking and Baking in Warwick Place, has been delivering cakes and treats to key workers across the Warwick district to show them some appreciation for what they are doing.

Saffron said: "I made my first delivery to Warwick Hospital A&E on March 21 and I have delivered around 20 trays of brownies, quite a few boxes of cupcakes and some large cakes.

"I started doing it because I wanted to show the key workers my support and gratitude.

"It started with the NHS but more recently it has evolved to other key workers.

"I think it’s important to be able to bring a smile to people who are working so very hard so the rest of us can stay safe at home.

"It’s lovely to see the positive impact it is having on those individuals putting themselves at risk to help the rest of us."

Saffron tries to deliver cakes as often as she can and has given cakes to many people and places including: Rowleys butchers, Rathbone’s funeral directors, Leamington Rehabilitation Hospital, Warwick hospital, a postman, a teacher, a lady making scrubs and masks for NHS workers, Myton Hospices, a key worker making hand sanitizer and Leamington probation office.

Saffron said: "I’m going to do it as often as I can, it’s difficult to get ingredients at the moment but when I can I will.

"I post on my Facebook page regularly asking for nominations.

"Cake brings people together.

"When I think about all the weddings, celebrations and events that have had to be postponed it just breaks my heart but hopefully soon we can start baking for our fabulous customers again soon."

Supporting the community and charities is also important to Saffron.

"I’ve always done a lot of baking for charities", said Saffron. "I donate cakes to the Leamington fire station often and I’m always donating to raffles, community cafes and charity events.

"But at the moment when I can’t bake for my customers it makes me happy to know that I’m making someone else happy in this challenging time.

"I’ve always been community minded I think being able to do something for others is rewarding because I get to witness the difference small things make to others.

"You don’t need to do a lot to change someone’s day for the better and put a smile on their face."
