A shop near Rugby which had been owned by the same family for a century has been sold, despite some hindrance caused by the outbreak of coronavirus.

Moore & Son Costcutter in Long Buckby had been family-owned since 1919.

Now-previous owner Trevor Moore said: "After trading for 101 years in the same family, the decision to sell up lock, stock and barrel was a very difficult one to make."

Trevor is the grandson of the original owner and took over the store forty years ago.

He explained that he approached property advisor Christie & Co, who then put the shop on the market in spring, 2017.

At that time a sale fell through and the shop's main supplier went into administration - the latter forcing Trevor to hold off the sale while he saved the shop.

The shop was then put up for sale again in February last year.

Steve Bell of Christie & Co then organised an open day to attract interested buyers - and within two weeks an offer was accepted and the sale went ahead.

Trevor added: "The process was very much hindered by the arrival of COVID-19, but Steve, as promised, held our hands all of the way and managed to complete the sale.

"Steve has been brilliant and very understanding, and we would like to thank him for all his hard work and support.

"We wish him and the wider Christie & Co team all the best for the future.”

Trevor now plans to retire.
