Rugbeians send more than 101 cards to congratulate much-loved care home resident Lily on her 101st birthday

A much-loved Rugby care home resident is thanking all who helped to make her 101st birthday very special.

A much-loved Rugby care home resident is thanking all who helped to make her 101st birthday very special

Celebrations have been in full swing at Overslade House care home for Lily Addis's birthday - which was marked with a huge cake and a mountain of birthday cards.

Lily received over her birthday age in cards and messages from the Rugby community and beyond.

She moved to Rugby in the 1950s and for many years she worked at Boots in the town centre.

She has one daughter, Barbara Rose who also lives in Rugby with her husband Peter.

Barbara kindly provided the black and white photographs and information on Lily's time in Rugby.

Lily said she had a wonderful day, and couldn’t believe how lucky she has been.

She said she wishes to send thanks to everyone who was involved in her very special day.

A spokesperson for Overslade House said: "Our activities coordinators will spend the next few days reading all the lovely cards and messages to Lily.

"We want to send a special thanks to Daisykins Nursery who sent birthday cards from the children, and all the people who sent cards from the community and Cross Countries’ Radio for the special shout out for Lily.

"Lily was also surprised and honoured to have a poem penned personally for her by the resident ambassador Gerald Waterfield at our sister home in Cubbington, who posted his wonderful ‘Poem to Lily’ to Facebook.

"Lily was joined in our café by staff and a handful of home based friends as we all raised a glass in honour of her landmark birthday, around a special birthday cake made by one of the home’s chefs, Dario Mozzettini.

"We asked Lily what her secret to life was and she said ;to enjoy life and have kind people around her'.

"We are honoured to have spent today celebrating with Lily and wish her all the happiness in the world."

Violeta Baesu, general manager of the home, said: "We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone.

"Having a birthday during the restrictions can be hard. Lily is an amazingly strong lady and as ‘queen’ for the day, we’ll do all we can to make one to remember."

Overslade House provides residential, nursing and dementia care for 86 residents from respite care to long term stays.
