Two Rugby chip shops worked together to raise £2,500 for Hope4, the Rugby charity which works across community, providing shelter, advice and food for those in need.

Fish Plus owner Andreas Kattou and Fishsmiths owner Dee Gregoriou teamed up to host the event, which ran from 12pm to 5pm on Sunday, April 11, outside the Fishsmiths shop on Main Street in Newbold.

The menu consisted of souvlaki, a traditional Cypriot dish of meat roasted on skewers.

When the Advertiser went along to pick up some lunch there were many people queuing and the mouth-watering smell of roasting meat and charcoal was in the air.

Andreas said the response had been brilliant, with queues all day and all enjoying the food.

Chicken, pork and halloumi in Cypriot pitta breads with salad and tzatziki were served on the day - all of which, this newspaper can testify, was thoroughly delicious.

Andreas and Dee have done much throughout the pandemic to support vulnerable Rugbeians, raising funds for charity and offering free food to those in need.

They have set up a special page called 'Fish United' where they share updates on their community events and fundraisers.
