Tributes pour in after 'inspirational' former Rugby councillor and teacher Maggie Robinson dies

Much-loved former Rugby councillor and teacher at Ashlawn School and Dunsmore School for Girls has died unexpectedly, Rugby's Labour group has announced.

As well as being a teacher, Maggie Robinson was the labour borough councillor for Admirals from 1984 to 1988.

She had moved to Cumbria to be closer to her family.

Her political colleagues have written heartfelt tributes to Maggie's dedication to Rugby and its residents.

Maggie O'Rourke, current Labour group leader on Rugby Borough Council, said: "She was a very special friend, and dedicated to her work as a councillor.

"She was always good company too, with a really sharp wit! She did exceptional work as Agent for Andy King, then the MP for Rugby and Kenilworth."

Phil Blundell, who was a political colleague of Maggie's said: " Firm but kind in manner. Thoughtful in all things.

"Maggie was equally strong in challenging times for the party as she was when things went well. We will miss her."

New Bilton councillor Ish Mistry said: "She was instrumental in electing a Labour MP for Rugby and Kenilworth."

Claire Edwards, ex-councillor and Labour group leader, worked with Maggie on the Continyou project, and remembers her as an excellent mentor.

Claire said: "She had this knack of working in such a positive and collaborative way.

"She was a great team builder, and Rugby Labour owe her a great deal."

Maggie will also be remembered by many as an inspirational and compassionate teacher at Dunsmore School for Girls, and at Ashlawn School.

All of those paying tribute added that their thoughts are with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
