Warwick District Council gives reassurance to housing tenants during Coronavirus pandemic

Warwick District Council tenants who are struggling to make their rent payments during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic will not be evicted or be subject to enforcement procedures.W

In a letter which will be sent out to the district’s 5,300 tenants, they will be assured that if they fall behind on rent payments due to the effects of the virus, they will not lose their homes and that arrangements to support them during this time will be put in place.

In addition to these measures the Council’s housing team is urging private landlords and housing associations to adopt the same policy.

Warwick district’s portfolio holder for housing services, Cllr Jan Matecki said: “These are extremely difficult times for everyone living in our district and a great many of our local residents could well find themselves in financial difficulties.

"It is therefore vitally important that we offer each and every one of our tenants the assurance that they and their families can remain in their homes and prioritise their health and well-being during this unprecedented national emergency.

"We also want to encourage other landlords to do the same.”
