A record 600 people entered Rugby’s fourth annual Santa Fun Run event last Sunday.

Following the popular children’s race and the one-mile Santa Dash, a mass of Santas of all shapes and sizes completed the 5k circuit, finishing back at Rugby athletics track.

Bernie Baretto, of the Ladies Running Group, said: “This year we had fantastic soggy fun. It was great to win a bottle of Prosecco for being the 200th runner to finish, but it was even better that I beat hubby this year!”

Rugby & Northampton Athletics Club coach and event organiser, Kay Shaw, was thrilled to see so many families at the track getting into the Christmas spirit.

Mayor of Rugby, Councillor Richard Dodd, completed the 5k run, along with MP Mark Pawsey. Ben Musgrove scooped the turkey prize in the 5k event, with his younger brother Joe taking first in the junior boy category. Sally Tilt was the first senior lady across the line and Olivia Sheehan was the first girl.

The Rotary Club of Rugby helped organise the event, with sponsorship from Nicholls Building and Plumbing Merchants.
