Poets win awards in Rupert Brooke competition

Nine students from Rugby High School won awards in the prestigious Rupert Brooke Poetry Competition.

The poetry competition is run by Rugby School and is open to all local schools.

Ria Sangal, Emily Moore and Jessica Smith all won the senior category, winning £50 prize money each, and Sophie McGuigan won second prize for her poem ‘En Fleur’. At Key Stage 4, Natalie Evans gained third prize, Hetvi Bhatt took second and Caitlin Mullin won the category for her wonderful poem ‘Wastwater’ Ruby Murphy, who is a member of the school’s creative writing club ‘Firefly’, won first prize in the Key Stage 3 category, with ‘Like a Phoenix’ and Dona Bitaj, who is in her first year at the school, won third prize for her original piece.

Head of English Olga Dermott-Bond, said: “I am so thrilled and delighted for the students.”
