Police appeal for witnesses to serious crash on the Straight Mile near Rugby which has left a young woman in critical care

OFFICERS are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision that occurred on the Straight Mile near Bourton at 8.50am yesterday (Monday) involving two cars and a lorry.

The female driver who was the only occupant of a silver Peugeot 206 travelling from Rugby towards Princethorpe was in collision with a 7.5 ton curtain sided lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

The Peugeot then collided with a Hyundai car that was travelling behind the Peugeot towards Princethorpe.

The female driver of the Peugeot who is in her 20s and from Rugby was taken to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire for assessment and treatment. She suffered serious, potentially life changing injuries requiring surgery and is currently under sedation in the Critical Care unit where she is being closely monitored.

The driver of the Hyundai and the lorry were treated for shock and checked over as a precaution.

The road was closed for several hours to allow Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service to attend the scene, for vehicles to be recovered and to remove oil from the road surface.
