Polo club near Southam plans grand expansion which could create hundreds of new jobs

IXL Events Ltd, the club’s owner , has unveiled a 12-year plan for the 600-acre site, which includes 100 luxury lodges, a hotel and a player’s pavilion.

Work is set to start this month on the pavilion – which will feature a bar area, restaurant and viewing terraces to watch the polo games.

This first phase of the scheme is expected to be completed early next year – with plans to open the pavilion in April 2016.

The club expects the development to create hundreds of skilled and unskilled jobs for the region by 2025 and to help increase footfall to a range of established businesses across Warwickshire.

Maj Richard Carney MBE, general manager of IXL Events Ltd, said: ““We are thrilled to be bringing this incredible development to Southam.

It has been in the pipeline since December 2013 and we are very excited that work is starting this month.

“The idea is to make the Dallas Burston Polo Club itself a popular destination for all – bringing visitors from far and wide to this fantastic venue.

“We believe that with this investment we can make the club a top attraction where our visitors can enjoy a range of social activities and entertainment on site, but also enjoy the many sites and attractions that this region has to offer.

“This is an opportunity for people to not only enjoy our new development but also to immerse themselves in the region’s rich culture.”

The new jobs will range from cleaners, builders and maintenance workers to reception staff, office workers and hotel managers.

And the bosses at IXL Events Ltd say they plan to fill as many vacancies as possible with people who live nearby.
