A popular Rugby flower shop has closed today after just two years of trading.

Garden Gate Flowers, in Regent Street, closed its doors today (Tuesday, December 29) after its owners Simon and Sue Ainley said the shop’s debts out-weighed their confidence in the potential to grow the business and re-pay them.

The store and its owners have been involved in a number of community initiatives, including 1st Thursdays and Rugbeards.

In a statement posted on Garden Gates’ Facebook page, Simon and Sue said: “We are sorry to say that, with effect from today, December 29, Garden Gate (Rugby) Ltd ceased trading.

“After two years trading in Rugby Town Centre we, the directors, made this difficult decision following a review of the future viability of the business. The financial debts of the business out-weigh our confidence in the potential for the business to grow sufficiently to re-pay them over a reasonable timescale.

“Our last two years at Garden Gate have been packed with many fantastic moments. We’ve met so many wonderful people as customers, as trading partners and as ‘colleagues’ in the local retail and service economy and many have become good friends.

“So we’d just like to say a big thank you to those many lovely customers and friends who have enjoyed our flowers and wish you all well for the future.

“With best wishes, Sue and Simon Ainley.”
