Roof Off The Dassett was put together by pupils at the Dassett Primary School in Fenny Compton to mark the school’s 180th anniversary this year.

Each child took home a questionnaire that they completed with their family, enabling them to provide details of the occupations, hobbies and types of technology available in their homes.

They then compared this information with the result of similar surveys conducted at the Fenny Compton School - under the guidance of the then headteacher W H Stubbings - in 1947 and in 1967.

The book was written, designed and published by parents from the school and presented, as a memento of the 180th anniversary of the school. to four past headteachers, villagers who had contributed their memories and knowledge towards the book - and of course every child at the school.

Current headteacher Alison Hine said: “It was a fantastic opportunity to bring all ages of the community together as part of our birthday celebrations - and for the children to really engage with local history.

“They enjoyed comparing the information from today with that of the past, building up a picture of the school and its local community through the past 180 years. It was an unforgettable experience. The final book was stunning and the children felt extremely proud of it.”

Copies of Roof Off The Dassett (£3.50) are available from the school.
