The club is among five to be taking part in the Royal Yatching Association’s (RYA) Push The Boat Out sailing festival from May 14 to 22, where people of all ages are given the chance to get on the water and experience sailing.

As well as sailing on big boats and dinghies, people can try out windsurfing and power boating and there will also be sailing for the disabled.

Gareth Brookes, RYA Midlands regional development officer, said: “One of the things I love about Push The Boat Out is hearing the number of people who say they didn’t know they could sail so close to home and that it wasn’t like they expected at all.

“There is still this image that sailing is an expensive, elitist sport to get into, but you only have to visit one of our local clubs and centres to quickly realise that just isn’t the case.

“Sailing is a real family friendly sport and a great mix of people in the Midlands are sailors. It’s one of the most inclusive sports around too, as once on the water it’s a level playing field for all.”

The other clubs taking part are Shustoke at Shustoke Reservoir, Tamworth at Kingsbury Water Park and Olton Mere and Earlswood Lake, both near Solihull.

All equipment will be provided and refreshments will be available. For details, visit www.rya.org.uk/go/PTBO
