Race for Life comes to Rugby

RACE for Life campaigners have taken to the streets to spread the word - the event is coming to Rugby!

The 5km race takes place at Whitehall Recreation Ground on July 31 to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

Women were given information about the day in Rugby town centre on Monday.

Victoria Meikle, area event organiser, said more than 200 fundraisers have signed up for the local event so far.

She said: “We were out in Rugby purely to give our information and it wasn’t bad for a Monday. More women are needed though as we have spaces for 2,000.

“It’s just a case of spreading the word.”

Every two minutes someone is diagnosed with cancer in the UK.

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research.

Their ground breaking work involves finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

The charity has saved millions of lives.

Victoria said: “Taking part in Race for Life is a good way of raising money and raising awareness of the work we do. It is a very emotional day not only for people who are running in memory of a loved one but for cancer survivors.”
